Accreditation and Registration

The Postgraduate and MSc in Systemic Psychotherapy are validated by HETAC

The Family Therapy Association of Ireland (FTAI) is the professional organization for family therapy in Ireland. It has established criteria for the registration of family therapists and supervisors and course accreditation criteria for family therapy training programmes.  The 4 years MSc. has been accredited by FTAI as meeting the criteria for a family therapy training programme.

Under the guidance of the EAP, ICP and FTAI, European wide standards for the recognition of professional training have been developed, in order to guarantee minimum standards of education and training within the profession, to facilitate the movement of professionals within Europe, and to facilitate the movement towards statutory recognition of Psychotherapy as a profession. Consequently, FTAI is moving from the accreditation of three year training programmes that require further experience as a trainee therapist for registration as a Family Therapist to the accreditation of four year Integrated Training Programmes that have no additional requirements for registration. This four year training programme has been designed to meet the required standards and criteria for training at European level and is currently awaiting accreditation by EAP as leading directly to an award of the European Certificate in Psychotherapy.
